The Challenge

Secure and Compliant Data Center Transition

Executing a large-scale, high-security data center decommissioning. The project required precise planning, rigorous data sanitization, and adherence to strict environmental protocols.

  • Clean Room Protocol: Operations had to meet ISO-certified clean room standards, including ESD-safe procedures, particle control, and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain Absolute Data Security: Each server was populated with drives containing sensitive information, necessitating security protocols that focused on chain of custody and audit readiness.
  • Time Sensitive Decommission: The project was under a strict timeline with multiple compliance checkpoints and internal audits.

The Solution

Single Partner Solution for Data Erasure and Inventory Capture

Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations conducted pre-engagement site surveys, developed a phased extraction plan, and executed a full decommission of the site.

  • On-site Serial Number Capture: Implemented parent-child serial number capture, matching each drive’s serial number to its corresponding server and rack location.
  • NIST Compliant Sanitization: Utilized enterprise-grade software tools for NIST 800-88 Rev1 compliant sanitization of all drives.
  • Auditable Chain of Custody: All 37,280 dries were wiped onsite and validated through automated logs and technician sign off.
  • Single Partner Solution: Dynamic served as the single partner from planning and de-racking, through data sanitization, logistics, and final disposition

The Results

  • Completed the full job 3 days ahead of schedule, with 100% successful wipe verification of all 37,280 drives.
  • Minimized downtime and allowed the client to repurpose the clean room space immediately post-project.
  • Maximized security through chain of custody visibility and automated compliance documentation.

Operational Impact Spotlight

Minimal Downtime. Maximum Results.

Dynamic executed physical de-racking, removal, and sanitization to prevent clean room contamination and meet security standards.

  • Precision lifting equipment to derack 2,000-pound servers without violating clean room protocols
  • Bagged, sealed, and labeled all materials within the room before removal to prevent particulate contamination
  • Palletized with anti-static protection and securely transported for asset disposition.

By blending logistical precision with secure data handling protocols, we ensured the client’s assets were responsibly retired without compromising environmental or data security standards.
